Scientists discover 'one weird trick' used by ancient Egyptians to build the pyramids

There are many mind blowing things about the pyramids, from the fact that Cleopatra lived closer to the Moon Landings than the construction of the Great Pyramid to the idea that they remained the tallest man-made structures on Earth for more than 3,800 years.

Just how did the ancient Egyptians shift stones weighing as much as 2.5-tonnes with technology no more complex than a sledge?

Now, a group of physicists say that they’ve uncovered that ‘one weird trick’ that helped ancient engineers drag the huge stones across the desert. The magic ingredient? A little water.

This unbelievable footage shows the gruesome moment a worm bursts through the dead corpse of a praying mantis in a scene akin to the classic Sci-Fi film .

The video shows the praying mantis walking across the floor while the person holding the camera prods it before killing it with insect repellant. 

But seconds later something can be seen moving at the rear of the insect and then a huge worm bursts out and wriggles across the floor.

Experts shown the video by German newspaper Bild said it was clearly a parasite that had been eating alive the praying mantis.

They said it appeared to be a horsehair worm or Nematomorpha.

The praying mantis is a protected insect in Germany where it is extremely rare but it is not clear where the video was shot. read more

According To Actual Science If You Have Weird Semen, You’re Probably Going To Die Soon

Nobody panic but – okay, maybe panic. In something-that-scientists-actually-studied news, researchers have just determined that if you have weird semen, you’re way more likely to die young than everyone else. Yeah, you. Weird semen guy. I’m talking to you.

Scientists at Stanford University studied the medical records of 12,000 men aged 20 to 50 who’d come in to have their semen analyzed between 1989 and 2011 (for potential infertility reasons, not just for kicks). The team compared semen abnormalities – including sperm volume, count, motility, and shape – with mortality rates and discovered a correlation.

Apparently, men with two or more of these semen abnormalities were more than two times as likely to die during the eight years immediately following their semen analysis, compared to men with “normal” semen. The median age of death for dudes with weird swimmers was 36, despite most of them having better-than-average diet, education, access to health care, and income. The study also took into account health differences, age differences, and unknown diseases – and the results stayed the same.

Cricket ball launched to the edge of space for first time

A cricket ball has been launched to the edge of space for the first time.

Footage shows the ball rising from Edgbaston Stadium, in Birmingham, through the clouds and to the upper reaches atmosphere while attached to a helium balloon.

It endured temperatures of -54C and reached a peak altitude of 110,000 feet - three times the cruising height of commercial aeroplanes - before plummeting back to Earth.

The official match ball hurtled back down at 500 mph but thanks to a parachute, it reached the ground safely and intact, landing in almost perfect condition in Newbury, Berkshire.read more and watch video

Cat saves boy from dog attack: YouTube video shows family pet rescue child

A brave feline has proven that cats can be just as loyal as man's best friend, by saving its young owner from a dog attack on a California street on Tuesday.

In the footage entitled My cat saved my son, which appears to have been shot by a CCTV camera, a young boy is seen riding his bike on a driveway next to a parked car.

A shot taken from a different angle then shows a sandy-coloured dog trot into view on the opposite side of the stationary vehicle, and run up to the child.

Suddenly, the animal viciously bites into the boy’s leg and drags him from his bike onto the tarmac.
