13 Weirdest Things People Have Ever Tried to Return
“A parking lot management company ordered 500 of our Safety Cone Stress Balls (approx. 3.25” tall) thinking they were REAL safety cones. Needless to say, when the order arrived, they definitely couldn’t put those out on the street and expect to keep anyone safe. The company was livid, demanding to get their money back. I guess our cute little stress toys weren’t doing their job and keeping them stress-free. Quality Logo Products later accepted this return because clearly there was a huge misunderstanding. It was way easier to bite the bullet than be possibly ambushed by Safety Cone Stress Balls outside of our office!” —Bret Bonnet, co-founder and president of Quality Logo Products=read more

13 weird ways parents get children to sleep
Exhausted after Christmas and the new year? Are you craving a few more hours in bed? Are you a parent whose sleepless children are leaving you a sleep-starved wreck?
These days in early January are claimed as the darkest days for sleep deprivation.
The modern barometer for such moments - the number of Google searches - shows "child won't sleep" as reaching a worldwide peak of searches at this time of year.
You can just imagine those weary fingers tapping out the words, slumped over a mobile phone in the middle of the night, hoping for an answer.

Children are more wired than Maplin's shop window. They've been living on late nights, red-eyed computer games and party food and the chances of falling asleep are pretty much zero.=read more

At least they're cheap! Hilarious internet gallery reveals the weird (and sometimes very rude) thing people find in charity shops
People have shared photos of the weird and wonderful items they've found in charity shops from bondage teddy bears to underwear made for two people.
Flabbergasted shoppers have posted an array of bizarre and often very inappropriate games, figurines and novelty items that are being sold to raise money for worthy causes.
Among the photos, posted on Reddit, are a chair covered in embroidered cats, two provocatively posed pig salt and pepper shakers and a furry set of scales.
Other items include, former US President George Bush Snr and Barbara Bush slippers and a picture of Monica Lewinsky with a white substance on her top lip.
While one photo shows a red t-shirt, making reference to the OJ Simpson murder trial in 1995, with the caption: 'Drink apple juice, because OJ will kill you.'

The Earth is making a weird noise, and researchers have no idea why
Thanks to humans, the Earth is a pretty noisy place. We’re loud creatures — certainly more so than any other animal ever to walk the planet — and we’re even louder when we get together with other humans. But the Earth isn’t totally silent, even without noisy animals all over its surface, and scientists are trying to figure out why that is. For the very first time, researchers have captured an underwater recording of a mysterious noise that Earth has apparently be producing for eons, and they still aren’t sure why.
The sound which the planet produces is a low, steady, unceasing hum. Scientists have been attempting to record and explain the odd noise as far back as the late 1950s, with little concrete data to suggest its source. Now, new researchpublished in Geophysical Research Letters is attempting to explain why it happens, and scientists think it might have something to do with the ocean.=read more

Let’s Talk About Why Toes Are So Weird
It’s time to talk about toes here on Burning Questions, which should be a relief to anyone who has read the last few installments. As always, I’m here to answer the questions you would feel weird asking anybody else.Today’s question is from a reader whose toes perplex him.
The toes on your feet? You can probably wiggle all of them, individually. You can probably curl them up so much that you can essentially hide them under your foot. It seems like everyone has this dexterity.I do not.I cannot curl my toes, I cannot individually wiggle each toe, I cannot hide them under my foot or curl them up on the carpet, or anything like that!I don’t know why or what it is, I feel like a doctor would just tell me to stretch more, but my big toe can only go so far back before it hurts, and it isn’t much. My feet are fine, I don’t have a rare condition or anything else I’m aware of that is beyond asthma.Trying to search this on google leads to nothing, I’ve never asked my doctor but I’ve been so curious to know if it is called something and how to get that =read more

Weird signs you may need to see a doctor
HOUSTON - If you've ever heard chewing ice can mean you're lacking iron, it's true. There are also other, intense cravings that could indicate a metal deficiency in your body.
“There could be an overwhelming urge to have this craving, whatever it is, and so for instance if it's ice they might keep an ice cup at their desk all day long and chew ice all the time or if it's a secret, weird craving for like detergent or for like coffee grounds or something like that, a person might actually keep it near them and occasionally sniff it or weirdly even taste it,” said Dr. Robbyn Traylor from Next Level Urgent Care.
Health Headlines
Traylor said that if you or someone you know has bizarre cravings, don't be shy to tell them to talk to a doctor.
In fact, chiming in for another weird health symptom: sweet smelling breath, could save lives.
“If suddenly your family member seems to be struggling with their breath and they're breathing heavier than they normally do and you notice a fruity smelling odor, like a sugar-free gum on their breath, that could be a sign that their blood sugar is really high and that their body is spiraling into some kind of metabolic catastrophe,” Traylor said.=read more

Japan’s weird sex hotels – offering everything from prison cell bondage to vibrator vending machines There are more th
There are more than 37,000 “love hotels” in Japan, which can be rented overnight or by the hour for lovemaking sessions.
They started in the 1960s and are now widely used by everyone from young couples in love to married men and women indulging in affairs.
Many of the hotels have themed rooms, based on the customer’s sexual preferences.
The spaces are steeped in fantasy, with decor ranging from fake subway cars and Greek palaces to religious bondage and pirate ships.
Some of the rooms are more sinister though, with schoolgirl uniforms and children’s bedrooms incorporated as part of the fantasy world.
There are also numerous extras that customers can use during sex, including swings and vending machines that dispense vibrators.
The American photographer Misty Keasler visited many of the love hotels during a visit to Japan for a photography book called Love Hotels: The Hidden Fantasy Rooms of Japan.=read more

Weird £5 "portable lawn" sparks internet frenzy and has already sold out
Groupon has created the world's first portable lawn, and while many of us would never be seen dead chillaxing on a personal human-shaped patch of grass, we are apparently wrong, as the portable lawn was quickly snapped up and is now officially sold out.
The aptly named 'Lawnsie' was only £5 a pop, designed to allow Brits to take green space with them wherever they went, and is quite literally, a patch of fake grass in the shape of a body that allows you to pitch up and sunbathe anywhere.=read more

The weird and wonderful world of pub games
As long as there were pubs and inns there were always games," says historian and 'doctor of darts' Patrick Chaplin. While his PhD is in the social history of that pursuit, the world of pub pastimes is far from restricted to the dartboard or the pool table. Anyone for a spot of dwile flonking or a game of devil among the tailors?read more

Dull, bland and boring: Towns band together to become more exciting

The small Scottish community of Dull forged ties with Boring, in Oregon US, in 2012.
They were twinned after Dull resident Elizabeth Leighton was cycling around the US state while on holiday and passed the strange settlement.
Tickled by the name she phoned home with the idea about developing ties between the two oddly-named places.
“We heard about it and thought it would be even better if it became Bland, Dull and Boring”Neil Pokoney
But the two communities have become more interesting after the Australian shire of Bland joined the “League of Extraordinary Communities”.
The stunt has proved successful for the Highland community, which has gone on to become a tourist sensation in its own right after erecting a 10ft sign announcing the Bring partnership in 2013.
Councillor Ian Cambell has even invited the Mayor -read more

10 weird things only British people do with toast
There is no such thing as just eating a piece of toast with a delicious topping such as peanut butter, we like to push the food boundaries, come up with different concoctions and above all find new ways to enjoy the humble food that is toast.
Believe it or not beans on toast, toasties and enthusiastically dipping it into egg yolk aren’t things that other nations do.
Obviously they’re missing out.
1. Toasties
This is a bit like the British version of the beloved American grilled cheese delight, but of course way better.
Nothing brings your tummy delight like a serving of two near burnt cheese, baked beans and red onions toasties, with a side of tomato ketchup.
Simple to make, so fil

Cult Movie: The Strange World of Gurney Slade a weird and whimsical 60s gem
The Strange World of Gurney Slade
READERS with a taste for the cult in their TV viewing – since you're here, that's probably you, pal – may remember TV Heaven from the early 90s.
Hosted by ageing raconteur Frank Muir, in that fruity old school broadcaster voice of his that sounded as if he was gargling a bag of marbles, it was a series of evenings on Channel 4 that focused in on a specific year each week, bringing together a load of programmes that were popular at the time and even cramming in the relevant TV advertisements from the period as well.
It was a cool, if admittedly cheap idea, and one that threw up all manner of televisual treats to be devoured by cult vultures like me.
Best of all among these often long considered lost gems, for me at least, arrived when 1960 was the year in question and old Frank got his tongue around the title of The Strange World Of Gurney Slade.-read more

Weird and wonderful true stories about World War II
Stoned pigeons guiding bombs, German-eating sharks and a chocolate plot to kill Churchill.
They sound like something out of a wartime comedy film – but these were actually among the more weird plots thought up in a bid for victory.
And you can find them in a new book called Weird War Two, from the Imperial War Museum.
Here are a few more gems:
1: The US military trained pigeons to sit inside bombs and steer them by pecking at a target on a screen. This unnerved them, so they were fed cannabis before the mission. The project was cancelled because it was so bird-brained.-read more

the-mysterious-mermaid-of-sheringham-

There, on the bench end of the pew closest to the north door is a not-so-little mermaid, a formidable-looking siren of the sea immortalised in carved wood.
Legend has it that the mermaid was drawn to the church from more than a mile away by the sound of heavenly singing and, despite the encumbrance of a tail, dragged herself laboriously from beach to churchyard.
With the service still in full swing, the church Beadle unceremoniously slammed the door in the face of the sea princess, leaving her floundering outside.
“Git yew arn out, we carn’t have noo marmeards in ‘are,” the Beadle hissed.
But mermaids are made of stern stuff and a mile and a half is too far to slither without a sit-down - as soon as she was able, she crept into the back of the church and can still be found there today.-SEE VIDEO

Take a look at these nine weird and unusual UK laws which are still in effect today
With tobacco rules set to change in May and new driving and child car seat laws recently introduced, we have taken a look at some laws which you may not know exist.
UK laws are constantly evolving and while changes are introduced each year, there are still many out-of-date and unusual ones which have never been repealed.
Technically, you could still be arrested for breaking them, but police say it is debatable whether or not they will arrest you for some of them.
Here are some of the weird and wonderful UK laws which still exist today.
Don't be drunk in charge of a cow
The Licencing Act 1872 makes it illegal to be "drunk while in charge, on any high- way or other public place, of any carriage, horse, cattle, or steam engine, or of being drunk when in possession of loaded fire-arms".
Wearing a suit of armour in Parliament
As of 1313, it has been illegal to enter the Houses of Parliament wearing a suit of armour.
Door knocking
Seen by many as a harmless (if annoying) children's game, knocking on someone's door and running away is actually illegal under the 1839 law. It makes it an offence to "wilfully and wantonly disturb any inhabitant by pulling or ringing any doorbell or knocking at any door without lawful excuse".
